Question by Steven T: ancient coin valuation and identification?
i don’t know much about it. it was given to me as a gift a few years ago.
here’s some pictures. sorry they’re a bit blurred.
http://www5.picturepush.com/photo/a/1176463/img/Anonymous/coin.jpg
it came with a little bit of paper that says:
Germanicus
Struck by Claudius c. AD 41
AE as, 8.73g
Obv: Bare head of Germanicus to right
Rev: Legend around large SC
i’ve taken it to 2 (people that valuate coins). one said it could be worth hundreds, and the other said it was worth about $ 5.
i’m opting more towards the second, as it doesn’t seem in very good condition. however i’m not sure what coins from that time are supposed to look like.
does anyone know anything about it?
and also, how much it is worth?

If you have access to a public library, you should be able to identify this antique coin. Do not try to clean the coin you could be destroying the value. Maybe your city has a coin shop, that might be willing to help you. Look for reference books on ROMAN coins.
